Wilkinson Publishing

I self-published Tom Mortimer Pitt Street Bankers, and officially released the book in September 2023. In December that year, it won the ‘High Country Book Club – New England Tablelands NSW – Favourite Read 2022-2023 Award.’ On the back of the award and amazing feedback from my readers, my partner Deborah Wray and I decided to ‘get out there’ and bang the drum. So during 2024 we toured Australia’s agricultural shows, promoting my book and raising money and awareness for
Rural Aid.

On the 21^st August at the Peak Hill Show, I get a phone call. ‘Hello I’m Michael Wilkinson of Wilkinson Publishing in Melbourne. I’ve just finished reading your book. What an amazing story, fiction based on real life.  It’s extremely well written.
I love that you’ve lived it...your story has universal appeal.’

Thinking it was a prank call from one of my mates, I cautiously asked how he found my book.

‘My wife purchased it from you at the Mossman Show. She was on holiday in North Queensland, and is always on the lookout for unique stories. Are you looking for a publisher?’

Mossman is a small town of about 2,000 people, located in the northern-tip of Australia. It’s the gateway to the famous world-heritage Daintree Rainforest. Who would have thought I’d find my publisher there.

By the end of 2024 we’d raised significant funds for Rural Aid, made lasting connections with people all over Australia, and I had myself a publisher.
